Winches need to be serviced at least once during the pre-season. However, it is better to do it twice a season if you have the boat in salt water. If you are racing your boat hard, you will probably want to service the winches before each race. Keep the winches clean and in working order by washing them frequently with a gentle spray of fresh water. Check the triggers and springs, bearings, gears and shafts for signs of wear or corrosion.
